Everybody I know wants to be more effective, connected, wise and true to their convictions. As you look at the lives in the Bible and throughout history, a common link in the experience of all those heroes of the faith is simple: they were part of a small, committed group of friends. There is something about the way God made us and the way our world operates that the best way to grow, learn, commit and progress is to be intentionally linked to a small group. Scratch below the surface of the lives of the famous (or the infamous) and you will find those kinds of relations.
The small group is God’s idea and God’s plan for our being more like we were intended to be. Part of the mission of the Minnesota Prayer Breakfast is to encourage and support formation of small groups in businesses, communities and even government. We want to help you embrace this concept and stand ready to give you the help you need to go forward and/or deep with a group of committed friends.
WHY SMALL GROUPS?
We believe that every human being has an inborn desire to be part of something bigger than herself or himself. The impact of what the Bible calls “sin” – missing the mark of God’s plan — is to alienate us from one another. On the very basic level, a small group is way to work our way back to what our heart really desires: friendship; cooperation; common understanding; and unity.
If sin is what ails the planet, small groups are good for what ails us.
